Way Out West... In Makaha

Rene Matthyssen hosted Gene, Jeff and myself at his Uncle's spot in Makaha.  Good friends, aloha spirit, fresh fish (and every other kind of seafood) along with the best homemade cioppino was cherished under the Hawaiian sun and next to Rene's new boat.  Mahalo to Uncle Jeff and the family.

My good friend, Travis Jensen has been steadily shooting photographs in San Francisco's Tenderloin district besides being a writer with a few books published under his belt. This Wednesday, August 10th from 6-10PM at the Ever Gold Gallery, will be the destination to view works by Travis and Brad Evans, along with your opportunity to purchase their 50 page, "Tenderloin USA" journal. You can get a glimpse into this journal as well as purchase copies online, HERE. Proceeds to benefit Larkin Street Youth Services, helping at-risk youth in San Francisco.

Craig Steely in Pahoa, Big Island

My friend, Craig Steely is an amazing architect and all-around great person and shares our love for carving round-walls whenever possible with his son, Zane.  Craig lives half of his time in San Francisco (Dwell, the magazine rents from his studio space/home), and the other half on the Big Island, working on awesome lava-projects like the concrete home below.  He sent these photos recently and it looks like Pahoa's got some concrete for us to mash.  Mahalo, Craig!  - Yong-Ki
