Dave Ross' Backyard BBQ
Regardless of his busy week traveling back from Shenzen, China and jumping back into his role as president of VOX shoes, Dave, his wife Brittany and their awesome 22 month old daughter, PJ, hosted us for a backyard BBQ at their home, on our last full day in San Diego. We had a great time visiting and taking a sneak-peak into Dave’s detached studio, where it houses tons of decks that he’s done over his many years in skateboarding. Plus, lots of history regarding what he does during his personal time… see the video below this post.
Mahalo to the Ross Family!
PJ eating cherries… We fell in love with her instantly!
Dave, we borrowed your simple grilling technique and made some eggplants and asparagus last night!

Benefit For Jim Muir, Thursday, August 20
On March 14th of this year, Jim Muir was surfing at Westwards Beach (south end of Zuma Beach) when his head pile-drived the bottom of the ocean floor. As a result, he broke his neck. Jim floated to the surface face down in full paralysis and would have drowned if not for the surfers and lifeguards on scene. They rallied to get him to shore and resuscitated Jim as he was brought out of the water and up onto the beach. He was airlifted to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills.
Besides the opening at the Air Conditioned Supper Club on Thursday, August 20, an Online Auction for the decks from the Dogtown Art Show are up for your bid. All for an awesome cause and one that’ll truly benefit a person who deserves your support.
Made By Hand, SA Team Shirt
Frances has joined the Solitary Arts Skate Team. We’re really stoked!
The monkey bar gave her the arm-cast.
Geoff screened these shirts at his Atwater, Champion Studio. This one is sized, only for Frances.
Email Igloo to purchase one of a dozen or so Mens S.A. Team shirts.

Visiting, Cardiff By The Sea
After the Igloo Anniversary this past Saturday in San Diego, Geoff and our respective families visited Cardiff on Sunday as a leisurely visit before heading back home to LA and SF.
Ebb and Flow is a new shop in Cardiff and their grand opening, which was on 08/08/09 (the same night as the Igloo Anniversary) looked to be another spot folks gravitated to that evening. Makes perfect sense with Andy Davis’ (and Ashely Davis’) 6 month exhibit and their complete product offering infused into the store. The space is a beautiful slice of the Davis’ output of artwork, clothing, and overall aesthetic.
The Mattson 2 along with Ray Barbee opened the festivities and a solid stock of Galaxia recordings are available to purchase at the store.
Check the opening PHOTOS from the Ebb and Flow site.
The entire store was an awesome visit for us. Plus, Khamla is a great ambassador for Ebb and Flow. Thanks for the hospitality!
This record player is simply beautiful. Now if I can find another one and have it sit next to our studio jukebox, I think we can cover all vinyl-bases.
Geoff and I signed the visitors book… JOIN US.
Directly across the street is the Patagonia Cardiff store where Geoff installed a huge installation behind their cash-wrap when they first opened.
Geoff’s installation is a labor of love… So good…
Do Lectures: September 3-7 Cardigan, West Wales
The Do Lectures are all about getting a handful of speakers together in one place, in the hope that they may inspire you to go Do something. To give you the tools and the desire to change the things you care about.
The idea is a simple one. That people who Do things, can inspire the rest of us to go and Do things too. So each year, we invite a set of people down here to come and tell us what they Do. They can be small Do’s or big Do’s or just plain amazing extraordinary Do’s. But when you listen to their stories, they just light a fire in your belly to go and Do your thing, your passion, the thing that sits in the back your head each day, just waiting, and waiting for you to follow your heart.
To go find your cause to fight for, your company to go start, your invention to invent, your book to write, your mountain to climb.
The one thing the Doers of the world Do, apart from Do amazing things, is to inspire the rest of us to go and Do amazing things. They are fire-starters.
David Hieatt – Co-founder of the Do lectures.
Geoff is one of the invited guest speakers for 2009. Click HERE for a complete list of speakers.
For the upcoming September 3-7, Do Lectures, Howies is running a shirt that Geoff designed with a portion of sales going to support the annual lecture series in Cardigan, West Wales.
